About Jim Baker

Jim Baker I have always been interested in photography and art but never had the time prior to retirement to enjoy it. After practicing as a CPA in public accounting for almost 10 years, I joined a communications company as their CFO for another 24 years before retiring in 1999. With the love of photography, time, and the desire to do something creative, I have been able to develop a series of art pieces that I call “photographic designs”

Almost all of my photographic designs are based on original photographs of flowers, architectural features and menorahs. A few are generated from original art that I have created using a computer. I have always loved modern abstract art and in that tradition I consider my photographic designs to be different interpretations of and ways to view my original photographs and art. For some of the photographic designs it is easy to identify their origin while for others, it is near impossible. In the latter case, I have used the shapes, texture and colors of the original work as a base for creating abstract views of those features.

Selling my photographic designs is wonderful; however, I wanted to do more with my artistic effort and therefore started a program called “Art for Camp Scholarships” where sales of my photographic designs not only provide the purchaser a beautiful piece of art but also help send needy children to summer camp.

In 2002, the Baker family established a scholarship endowment fund, The Mildred and Ernest Baker CDC Camp Scholarship Fund. The Fund uses its annual income to provide needy families scholarship money so their children might be able to attend the Center Day Camp in Windham, Maine.

In 2005 and 2006, these photographic designs were exhibited at the Elizabeth Moss Gallery in Falmouth Maine. Over 100 photographic designs were sold all for the benefit of the Fund. Thereafter, sales have been made through my company, JB Alternative Resolutions, LLC, with 100% of the net profits from sales being donated to the Fund at the end of each year. Net profits from sales made through Fine Art America will be part of future annual contributions.

Since 2004, I have created over 1000 photographic designs. While I build my galleries on the Fine Art America site, you can also see some of the older photographic designs at www.jimbakerdesigns.com. All future sales will be made through the Fine Art America site www.jimbaker.fineartamerica.com or my new web site www.jimbaker.artistwebsites.com which is integrated with the Fine Art America site.
